Coast Wildand Founder Benjamin R. Eichorn is an International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Certified Wildfire Mitigation Specialist. He has served as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT and Nonprofit Executive and has a background as an Organic Farmer, Author and K-12 Educator.  Ben grew up tending the land his parents homesteaded along the Big Sur Coast in the early 1980s. His love of the land and experience during the 2016 Soberanes Fire prompted him to found Coast Wildland with the intention of helping his community become more resilient in the face of climate change. He strongly believes that humans living in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) can live in balance with natural forces, including storms and wildfires of increasing frequency and intensity, as long as they are proactive in anticipating and mitigating their potential impacts using a standardized, evidence-based approach.
